Shifting Perspectives: Maps, Spaces, Places and the Urban
Together with Huda Lutfi, Sabine Bitter and Helmut Weber research – and experience – the cultural and architectural diversity of contemporary Cairo, engaging with the rapid urban developments and restructuring processes currently taking place in the city. Existing social spaces are lost while new ones are created, extending and transforming the public sphere.
Bitter, Weber, and Lutfi’s collaborative works use historic Arabic maps and traditional everyday textiles to shift the perspective of contemporary Cairo and sketch potential urban dynamics and textures of its future.
