Subjunctive Mood
Subjunctive Mood includes works that deal with the built environment, the future of our cities, and the fragility of human existence. No unattainable utopias are created or conveyed, nothing is evaluated or explained. The focus is on non-judgmental observation and on pointing out possibilities that can provide consolation for what has been irretrievably lost and giving hope for the future.
Nona Inescu’s works tie our human vulnerability to the endangerment of sensitive coral reef ecosystems. Nicoleta Auersperg’s sculpture spotlights the short-lived methods of thermal insulation in architecture that are common in Central Europe. Bianca Pedrina addresses the boundary-free, border-crossing fine particulate air pollution that penetrates into our lungs. The mirrors in Do Mayer’s works strive to take on a new task: reflecting sunlight to buy time for humanity.
