Christoph Höschele and Leo Trotsenko focus on viewing the environment and investigating specific local situations. They react very differently to various perceptions and external influences.

Christoph Höschele’s work is an experimental exploration of the catchment area of the Bílina River in Northern Bohemia. He went on multi-day trips in the area to examine nature and visible human impact on it using film.

He used the collected material to create a large-format video piece that, in a no-comments style, shows the manifestations of the Bílina from source to delta. Old laboratory vessels of river water samples (taken during filming and as of yet untested) are set up as an installation accompanying the film.

Leo Trotsenko observes the space visible above the earth – both in its natural state and the artificial human-made elements within it, such as airplanes and drones in the sky. His work is politically charged and literally moves between heaven and earth. While his works may at first glance seem like textbook images of cloud shapes in the sky, they are actually Trotsenko’s personal way of artistically processing the dramatic experiences of his 2022 stay in Ukraine.

The Fall video reflects on contemporary warfare as a drone war, especially where the Russo-Ukrainian War is concerned. The battlefield is flooded from both sides with controlled flying machines that determine the course of combat action. Although the work was produced before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, it openly addresses current trends in surveillance, the state of the modern military, and technological advancement.
